A Father Figure

In my mind it has been socially constructed that a good father figure is something you can look up to. Someone who is able to teach you things that can help you in life. I agree with keyoshia when she said that it can be someone who is very close not by blood....I thought what that student told Dr. Greenfield about how women have choices and why men cant have the same choice as women when it comes to being a parent.I was personally taught that abotions are not allow in my family. It is believed that babies are a gift from God so in theory if I were to go with that belief I wouldn't have a choice just like the male i would be having the baby by. I guess what im trying to say is different belief systems determine whether or not it is really a choice for the woman as well as the man in the situation.

Trapped in the Borderlands

The Borderlands to me is a direct interpetation of how I feel about my life and my diversity culturally. Whether people believe on not I am not just a black female I am also part indian, white and puerto rican. Most of the time when people label me as being just black it offends me because I believe that thats not what I am. I consider myself to be a Mixed American and it hurts when people say things like "you not mix you just black or thats what you think you are." Its shame that it takes for people to see my family for them to really believe that I am what I say I am.I also hate dealing with people who tell me that I need to choose what traditional beackground I want to follow. I personally try to at least combine certain tradition from each part of my heriage but people look at me as if Im trying to make everyone happy instead of how I look at it as being diverse. The only person who seems to understand me besides my family is my boyfriend and I think thats because he is mixed himself. But to make a long story short I guess I'll always be struck in the borderlands as long as I live.

Enthnocentrism

My personal opinion would be No,and to tell that person to go into some other country who actually practice this type of tradition because thats not how things are done in the United States of America. In the eyes of enthnocentrism I would have to understand that it is apart of that person's culture and accepted it as it is. I believe that people get offended sometimes because they are only thinking of their own beliefs and feelings and never think of how they would feel if it was the other way around. When I hear about things that other cultures do that our culture doesn't do I try to think from the other point What if someone told me I shouldn't do what I believe in how would I feel?

My View of Social Constuction of Reality

I see social construction of reality as a way to describe when talking about different topics without saying that the way you feel is either right or wrong. It's a way to say that this is what I see or was taught about different issues. It can consist of what you believe, what you see around you, or what you have heard. It's how society effects us all that give us the ability to have a view of social contruction of reality.

What is society to me?

In my opinion it is a way to describe a group of people and/or their surroundings. It is the interacting between people and their environment and how that environment affects them which why people behave the way. Another way to describe people's culture differences, beliefs and moral in life. People dealing with different types of personality, characteristics , conditions, climate and etc.

The Lil Jimmy Court Case

This court case was very typical of what lots of Forster children go through everyday. They have to go from Forster home to Forster home hoping to be accepted and adopted by the Forster parents that they are assign to. For many it's a on going cycle because they are sometimes consider a problem child which makes they process longer for that child. I think that it very unfair to the child and that's why most Forster children may act they way because of what they have been going through in their life. Then it does help when they get stuck with bad Forster parents who are only doing it because they want the money. Personally i dated a guy who had Forster parents who treated him like an animal and it left to the point where he couldn't wait to be 18 years old so that he could be on his own. They would do things like he couldn't eat their food in the house unless he paid them for it. So image the days when his little job's paycheck ran out he would have to suffer and try and sneak food when they were home through his Forster brother and sister who sometimes thought it was funny.

I believe that in this court case Jimmy should go to the couple Stan and Dan even though on my beliefs about their relationship I would not approve. I know that if I were a jury member in a case like this I would really have to set aside my morals in life to make sure that the child gets what is the best for him which I believe is stability. Personally I am still against the idea of same sex couples because I believe that it is unlike God and what he wants for our lives. I always say the saying "God made Adam and Eve and not Adam and Steve" meaning that if he was okay with same sex being together he would have made it like that from the start. I don't think that in the near future I would change my mind on how I feel about these issue and I don't feel like I should accepted just because I see it everyday surrounding me. I have learned from my family to be me no matter what is going on around and to follow what my heart tell me not because everybody else is doing it either.
